Managing and reviewing major, complex international casualty claims predominantly stemming from D&O / PI (commercial and financial institutions), general liability, product liability, pharmaceutical liability, and environmental liability for our global clients Managing claims, focusing on added value through the assessment of indemnity and quantum, estimation of major losses, and ongoing review of reserves for individual losses and loss complexes Negotiating coverage, assessing liability and allocation, and initiating subrogation, including liaising with other MR international organizations (predominantly MRAm and MRUKGB) Servicing, advising, and monitoring our cedents regarding claims matters. Specifically, conducting claims reviews and visits at client offices (predominantly in the US and Bermuda) in cooperation with other MR international organizations (in particular as MRAm) Employing new technologies and alternative solutions for claims-related portfolio analysis as well as supporting the development and distribution of claims digital services Monitoring and reporting legislative changes and case law trends and their impact on the claims management of Munich Re Providing support for client management and underwriting (claims feedback and lessons learned, advising on wording issues, etc.) Fostering expertise and cooperation within the claims units Actively contributing to working groups and internal and external workshops and events on current claims topics

  Legal Counsel for Casualty Claims (m/f/d)*   Location Munich       We are seeking a highly-motivated legal counselor for diverse and engaging claims work to support our team in the global casualty claims department. Your job Managing and reviewing major, complex international casualty claims predominantly stemming from D&O / PI (commercial and financial institutions), general liability, product liability, pharmaceutical liability, and environmental liability for our global clients Managing claims, focusing on added value through the assessment of indemnity and quantum, estimation of major losses, and ongoing review of reserves for individual losses and loss complexes Negotiating coverage, assessing liability and allocation, and initiating subrogation, including liaising with other MR international organizations (predominantly MRAm and MRUKGB) Servicing, advising, and monitoring our cedents regarding claims matters. Specifically, conducting claims reviews and visits at client offices (predominantly in the US and Bermuda) in cooperation with other MR international organizations (in particular as MRAm) Employing new technologies and alternative solutions for claims-related portfolio analysis as well as supporting the development and distribution of claims digital services Monitoring and reporting legislative changes and case law trends and their impact on the claims management of Munich Re Providing support for client management and underwriting (claims feedback and lessons learned, advising on wording issues, etc.) Fostering expertise and cooperation within the claims units Actively contributing to working groups and internal and external workshops and events on current claims topics Your profile US or UK-acquired attorney degree or comparable long-time practical experience in the field and/or German lawyer Comprehensive experience in handling major international casualty claims and/or casualty underwriting in insurance and/or reinsurance Profound knowledge of US and UK substantive and procedural law Extensive understanding of related insurance and reinsurance coverage interpretation, loss reserving, loss report management, litigation management, and client relationship management Strategic thinking and ability to get to the core of complex legal and economic matters combined with strong analytical skills and the ability to work systematically and independently Results-oriented and solution-focused with strong negotiation and conflict management skills, decisiveness, and ability to work in a team Willingness to travel internationally, sometimes on short notice Excellent command of written and spoken business English About us Munich Re is one of the world's leading reinsurance companies with more than 11,000 employees at over 50 locations around the globe.
