Position:  Associate Director, Compliance Lead, Germany

Reports to: SVP, International Compliance
Location:    Munich, Germany

Position Summary

The Associate Director, Compliance Lead, Germany (“Compliance Lead – Germany”) will be responsible for leading, driving, and managing all aspects of Alexion’s Global Compliance Program for Germany. In this role, the Compliance Lead – Germany will actively participate on the Germany Leadership Team (“GLT”), interact frequently with cross-functional Leadership Teams, and be responsible for providing strategic direction and general compliance guidance, as well as implementing and maintaining all aspects of Alexion’s Global Compliance Program. Specific responsibilities, among other things, include the following:

  • Provide strategic direction and compliance leadership 
  • Lead the implementation and management of Alexion’s Global Compliance Program, including the Company’s anti-bribery/anti-corruption (“ABAC”) Compliance Program
  • Draft and implement policies, procedures, SOPs, and relevant compliance guidance, as needed
  • Actively participate and serve on the GLT, providing compliance guidance consistent with the Company’s Culture Values to promote ethical behavior, and enhance Alexion’s Global Compliance Program
  • Implement Alexion’s Compliance Program across Germany, ensuring appropriate compliance due diligence, governance, and monitoring processes are established
  • Establish compliance governance by managing and co-chairing the Germany Compliance Committee
  • Lead, drive, and conduct proactive compliance initiatives for Germany such as risk assessments, compliance workshops, training initiatives, and other compliance monitoring activities
  • Manage and coordinate remediation from investigations and corporate audit findings
  • Deliver regular compliance training to Alexion employees and relevant third parties on the Company’s policies and procedures, and Code of Conduct
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of Alexion and its global business operations and strategies; industry codes and regulations and external legal, regulatory, and business developments
  • Monitor the regulatory environment to ensure the implementation of best practices
  • Serve as a member of Alexion’s Global Compliance Team to continuously monitor and enhance the Company’s Compliance Program 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Oversight : Lead the implementation of all aspects of Alexion’s Global Compliance Program for Germany
  • Policies : Implement the global ABAC Policy and Procedures. Draft and implement relevant compliance policies, procedures, SOPs and guidance as needed
  • Training and Education : Conduct regular live compliance training and collaborate with senior leadership to develop annual risk-based training to both Alexion employees and third parties
  • Monitoring : Conduct monitoring activities to ensure adherence to Alexion policies and procedures. Monitor compliance with the Alexion ABAC Policy & Procedures, and lead other monitoring activities, as required
  • Third Party Management : Ensure adherence to the Company’s Third-Party Due Diligence Program on partners, suppliers, and vendors. Conduct third party risk assessments, as necessary
  • Risk Assessments : Conduct proactive risk assessments to mitigate potential compliance risks
  • Business Partnering : Provide compliance guidance and be an effective partner to the GLT, leaders, employees, and key cross-functional stakeholders 

Qualifications / Education

  • Law degree by an accredited law school is preferred
  • 6-8 years of relevant compliance experience related to implementing a compliance program, including experience with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, U.K. Bribery Act (2010), and other anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws; experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and interact with senior leaders
  • Experience drafting and implementing policies, procedures, SOPs, and guidance documents
  • Ability to work well with others and operate in a matrixed, multi-cultural environment
  • Leadership capabilities and project management skills to drive and lead projects and compliance initiatives with cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills
