Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for Nature Cardiovascular Research, a new journal that will launch in 2022.
Nature Cardiovascular Research _will publish basic, translational and clinical research focused on cardiac and vascular function and haematology in health and disease. Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death and morbidity worldwide, and _Nature Cardiovascular Research will also provide a platform for commentary and analysis on the socioeconomic burden of these diseases, to create a holistic view of research and its impact in this area.
The range of topics and disciplines to be covered includes (but is not limited to) studies on the biology and physiology of cardiovascular disorders, including heart failure, hypertension, stroke and other cerebrovascular disorders, coronary disease and atherosclerosis, in both humans and animal models. Reports on surgical interventional procedures and cardiovascular bioengineering will also be welcome.
To help realize this vision, we require an ambitious Chief Editor, who will develop, launch and establish _Nature Cardiovascular Research _as the leading publication for cardiovascular researchers and cardiologists alike.
Applicants must have a PhD, and preferably postdoctoral experience, and a strong track record in a relevant field of research. Previous editorial and/or managerial experience is a significant advantage.
The successful applicant will lead an editorial team, and work closely with them on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing of Reviews and News & Views, and writing for the journal. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences — willingness to travel when appropriate is essential.
Working within an editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Metabolism and Nature Aging, this stimulating role calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and the ability to absorb new areas of research are prerequisites.
The position will be based in our offices in either London, New York or Berlin. Please indicate a preference in the application.
