The Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical Uni­versity of Munich is a major Euro­pean center of medical care and edu­cation and teaching with 1,161 beds and around 5,500 emplo­yees. Every year around 60,000 patients bene­fit from in­patient and around 250,000 patients from out­patient care. The hos­pital is a supra-maximal care home that covers the entire spec­trum of modern medicine. Since 2003, the Klinikum rechts der Isar is an insti­tute of public law of the Free State of Bavaria. The Klinik und Poliklinik Innere Medizin III (Depart­ment of Hematology / Oncology (Direktor: Prof. Dr. F. Bassermann) at Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technische Universität München, invites appli­cations for a PhD student position (f/m/d) in the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1335 "Aberrant Immune Signals in Cancer" sponsored by the DFG We are offering an exci­ting scientific posi­tion in the field of cancer immunology / cancer the­rapy resis­tance in a highly clini­cally rele­vant research area. The focus of the group "Immune Regulation in cancer and stem cell transplantation" (Head: PD Dr. med. Hendrik Poeck) is to explore the mole­cular mecha­nisms and path­ways that drive cancer therapy resistance to immuno­thera­peutic approaches and induce tissue regene­ration during geno­toxic stress such as radi­ation therapy, chemo­therapy or allo­geneic hema­topoetic stem cell trans­plantation (allo-HSCT) (Fischer et al.; Sci Transl Med 2017;9; Jankovic et al.; Fischer JC et al; J Immunol. 2017;199:2356-2365; J Exp Med 2013;210:1899-910; Poeck et al; Nat Immunol. 2010;11:63-9; Poeck H et al, Nat Med 2008; 4, 1256-63). We seek: We are looking for compe­titive appli­cations from gradu­ate students (f/m/d) in medicine, bio­logy, immuno­logy or pharma­cy with an excellent academic back­ground and with a high interest and strong moti­vation to per­form research in an academic environ­ment. Laboratory expe­rience in parti­cular in bio­chemical and immuno­logical tech­niques and the willing­ness to work with mice are advan­tageous. We accept appli­cations from Germany or abroad. The appli­cant (f/m/d) should be fluent in English. We offer: Starting from January 2019, we offer a PhD position for two years with the possi­bility of exten­sion one more year. Salary is paid accor­ding to the German public ser­vice scale based on can­didates' back­ground and expe­rience (TV-L). Disabled persons will be preferen­tially con­sidered in case of equal quali­fication. Presen­tation costs can­not be refunded. The pros­pective candi­date (f/m/d) will be a member of the TUM Graduate School (TUM-GS), a central academic insti­tution at the Technical University of Munich. It promotes struc­tured training for PhD students, and colla­borates with the degree-awarding insti­tutions at TUM to pro­vide the best possible super­vision. TUM-GS was founded in 2009 by the Excellence Initiative to pro­mote the net­working and further quali­fication of doc­toral candi­dates. Candi­dates (f/m/d) will also be part of the inte­grated research trai­ning group (IRTG) of CRC 1335 to provide excellent multi­disciplinary training.
