Translational cancer research and cancer biology, mentoring PhD / MD students

The Klinikum rechts der Isar university hospital of the Technical University of Munich is a major European center of medical care and education and teaching with 1,161 beds and around 5,500 employees. Every year around 60,000 patients benefit from inpatient and around 250,000 patients from outpatient care. The hospital is a supra-maximal care home that covers the entire spectrum of modern medicine. Since 2003, the Klinikum rechts der Isar is an institute of public law of the Free State of Bavaria. The Department of Medicine III (Hematology / Oncology) at the Technische Universität München (TUM) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist (f/m/d) in the group of Prof. Dr. Katharina Götze. Area of research: We are focused on studying leukemic stem cells in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). In particular, we are interested in the interaction between leukemic stem cells and their microenvironment (niche) in the bone marrow to identify and target critical pathways directing clonal evolution and enabling survival of leukemic stem cells through interaction with the stem cell niche. Current projects have an emphasis on epigenetic changes in the bone marrow microenvironment during clonal evolution in MDS and AML and involve use of transgenic and transplantation mouse models as well as primary human bone marrow samples. Our projects are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG, SFB 1243), the José Carreras Leukämie-Stiftung (EPISTROMA) and the German Cancer Consortium (Deutsches Konsortium für Translationale Krebsforschung, DKTK). Prerequisite: Suitable applicants (f/m/d) must have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree, a strong background in cell and molecular biology, and experience with mouse models. Prior experience with flow cytometry, bioinformatics, genomics or computational biology is highly desirable. We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher (f/m/d) with an ability to work in a team. Applicants (f/m/d) interested in translational cancer research, cancer biology, hematopoieis, leukemia and/or stem cells are encouraged to apply. As a postdoc (f/m/d) in our group you should be able to drive and contribute to research projects, independently develop new research ideas and mentor PhD / MD students. Payment is according to tarif (TV-L). We particularly encourage female scientists to apply. Disabled applicants (f/m/d) will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualification. Starting date: The position is available immediately but later starting dates are possible. The position is currently funded for two years with the option of extension. Please send your application (including CV, list of publications, and two references) to Prof. Dr. Katharina Götze  Medizinische Klinik III (Hämatologie / Internistische Onkologie) Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München Ismaninger Straße 22 81675 München  Tel.: 089 4140-5618  Fax: 089 4140-4879 E-Mail: katharina.goetze@tum.de Homepage SFB 1243: www.sfb1243.biologie.uni-muenchen.de
